In each one of us, whether we are Christian or not, God has bestowed unique talents and gifts. That is right, even people that do not agree with us spiritually have talents that have been given by God. The really cool thing, and dare I say beauty of religious art, is that it brings the divine to life. It, religious art, is a physical expression of faith. A bridge that lets the physical to touch the spiritual. Whether this art is a painting depicting a biblical scene, a sculpture of a sacred symbol, or a musical composition that uplifts the spirit, religious art is a powerful way to express and share our faith.

In this type of context that I am speaking to you, your gift of artistry becomes a vehicle for the Word of God. Don’t think I am talking about just creating art. This Spiritual Gift is about creating a conversation, or even an interaction between the viewer and the divine. Not to sound too dramatic, but every stroke, every note, every chisel mark becomes an invitation to experience God's love and grace in a new way. You are helping many see the reality that is their faith.

Before you start thinking that I am just repeating myself in this section, take a moment to realize that the first section was talking about religious art as smaller pieces of art that are housed or displayed at certain places. Now we are talking about churches and the like that are places of worship and should not be consider “just” buildings. I am talking about sanctuaries where believers gather together to worship. This is the place where they will find comfort and grow spiritually. Your role of a craftsman is not just to build a place that is solid in its foundation, but to create a space that can foster a connection with the divine.

You might very well have skills in architecture or carpentry. It could be other building crafts which become instrumental in designing, constructing, or maintaining these sacred spaces Using your Spiritual Gift of Craftsmanship, structurally speaking, is all about contributing your skills to create a space that facilitates worship. And it shouldn’t have the sole focus of fostering community, it should be honoring God.

Don’t feel that you have to build something from scratch for anyone, you could contribute to renovating or maintaining an existing structure. Just remember you can help shape the physical environment where worship takes place.

The first section I spoke about beautifying churches or sanctuaries and the second part we talked about helping designing, constructing, or maintaining the building itself. But what if you aren’t into creating art that is for a church? What if you aren’t all about making buildings? That is completely find. You could easily create art that has the profound ability to touch the heart. Art can without a doubt inspire action to someone, and that action can bring about change in a person’s life. Creating art that you want to create can be used for charitable purposes and create a type of ripple effect. If you make something and the proceeds go to something that you support creative endeavor expands to the end user of your art and the monetary donations to the cause that you support.

Really whether it's selling your artwork to raise funds for church activities or missions, or donating your art to brighten community spaces, your creativity can become a catalyst for positive change.
